AMSA Registered Certificate of Safety Training

Description

This course provides you with the knowledge and skills to:

*      Carry out the duties required of crew members during onboard emergencies including fire and collision.

*      Use onboard life saving equipment to implement survival techniques in the sea and in survival craft.

*      Identify potentially hazardous situations arising in the work environment and take appropriate action to minimise risk of injury and pollution.

*      Develop communication skills and contribute to effective workplace relationships.

This course will lead to the issue of the Certificate of Safety Training by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) as per Marine Orders; Part 3, Issue 6, Section C/20, satisfying the requirements of STCW95 Section A-V1/1 to 4.

This certificate also satisfies requirements for Elements of Shipboard Safety (ESS) under the National Standard for Commercial Vessels Section D4.2 as required by State registered authorities.  It is also recognised by the MCA (Maritime & Coastguard Agency of Britain).










Careers & Pathways
The ‘Certificate of Safety Training’ (sometimes known as STCW95) is an internationally recognised certificate and is the mandatory minimum requirement in order to serve onboard commercial vessels and luxury yachts in international waters.  If you intend to work in the maritime industry overseas, this certificate is the minimum qualification you will require.
Entry Requirements
You must be a minimum of 16 years of age and will need to complete a medical declaration prior to commencing fire training. You must have a Senior First Aid Certificate is required (Section A-VI/1-3) and will need to provide a copy of your certificate on the first day of training.

Full-time over 6 days - 8.30am to 4.30pm.
Other information
You will need to provide the following at your own cost:

  • Certificate fee to AMSA ($93)
  • One current passport photo
  • Photographic ID for entry to Airport.
Appropriate clothing and protective footwear must be worn at all times. Swimmers and a towel are required for survival practice.

Assessment procedures
Assessment will include written assignments and tests, as well as practical demonstration of skills. Different organisations may conduct various aspects of the assessment.  This course involves extinguishing fires and strenuous water activities.  100% attendance and involvement in all practical activities is required for successful completion.
