English programs
The Language Centre at Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE offers a range of quality English language programs to international students.
Our training can help you gain valuable skills in English, achieve success in an international English exam, enter vocational programs at TAFE or university and communicate better in English to develop new opportunities for travel, employment, business and international friendships.
General English
This program consists of 25 hours per week of instruction and includes textbook based core instruction, review tests, language lab work and electives. Each level is 12 weeks long but students may choose to study for any length of time from 4 to 48 weeks. Students can commence training on any Monday, however starting on one of the main program commencement dates is recommended. Intensive General English programs can be studied full-time or part-time and are offered at up to six levels:- starter
- elementary
- pre-Intermediate
- intermediate
- upper Intermediate
- advanced
English for Academic Purposes
The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program is designed to provide students with the study skills necessary for entry into TAFE vocational programs or university study. Successful completion of the EAP program prepares students to undertake a TAFE Diploma program and enjoy a career pathway to a vocational qualification or further study. Students enrolled in the EAP program will learn to:
- develop skills to read quickly and understand English academic texts
- write academic essays and reports in English
- give effective presentations
- understand academic lectures and seminars in English and take notes
- participate fully in English in the academic classroom
- develop learning skill and research strategies for successful academic study
The 12 week program consists of 25 hours per week of full-time study, and includes textbook based core instruction, weekly assessment, and language lab work tests and actvities.
Our experienced Language Centre teachers hold national qualifications, including postgraduate qualifications. All have international teaching experience and enjoy teaching international students.
