Seventeen Tropical North Queensland TAFE fashion design students made kitchen dressing delectable when they displayed their 'garbs from garbage' creations recently.
Institute Director Jo Pyne said the student's designs highlighted Tropical North TAFE's focus on promoting sustainability.
"Every department reflects the organisation's commitment to conservation and recycling" Ms Pyne said.
"The students did their teachers proud with their recycled haute couture creations.
"Teachers Susan Connell, Carla Richardson
and Yvonne Turnbull saw their instructions on design, pattern making and sewing produce unique silhouettes.
"The exquisite designs included a wedding gown made of 500 paper napkins and doilies, a cocktail number from 108 metres of plastic bags woven around recycled packing tape and a gown that lit up with solar panels.
"Each creation came with an environmental message on how to reduce our carbon footprint on the runway.
"These wearable art designs were both fun and environmentally responsible."
