More than 40 locals have begun upskilling their careers, thanks to the commencement of the latest TAFE courses in the Tully area.
Traffic Control, Food Hygiene and Introductory Computing courses have started, with more to be introduced over the coming months.
In congratulating the students, TAFE Institute Director Jo Pyne said the new courses were identified as skill shortage areas within the region.
"Late last year, TAFE conducted a survey in Tully and surrounding districts to gauge the training requirements of the region," Ms Pyne said.
"These courses, among others, were a direct result of that survey.
"The level of interest in these initial classes is great and I congratulate those that have taken part."
The new computing class is being delivered after hours at the Tully State School and future TAFE courses will also make use of community facilities.
"The Tully, Mission Beach and Cardwell regions have some really good facilities and we plan on utilising these for TAFE training," Ms Pyne said.
"It's a better use of public resources and it provides locals with more choice such as night and weekend training options.
"Overall costs are kept to a minimum and in turn, courses are more affordable."
TAFE will soon offer Test and Tag, Chemical Handling and Machinery Licensing courses in the area.
