Training survey seeks input from Tully locals

Tuesday, 29 September 2009 3:03PM

Locals and businesses from the Tully, Cardwell and Mission Beach areas are being invited to help shape the future of training in the region with the release of the TAFE training online survey.

The survey, which can be viewed at
http://education.qld.gov.au:7002/perseus/se.ashx?s=426B86B36800BFAC, will be used to help identify and deliver sustainable training courses.

Tropical North Queensland TAFE Institute Director Jo Pyne said it was part of a wider consultation in the Tully area to help investigate skilling shortages and the training requirements of key local industries and individuals.

"The survey results and feedback we receive will be used to determine what TAFE programs are the right fit for this region," Ms Pyne said.

"It's the first step to introducing training courses that not only improve employability outcomes for locals but also build the capacity of the community.

"The more responses we receive, the more effectively TAFE can respond to the needs of Tully, Mission Beach and Cardwell."

Ms Pyne said training opportunities for businesses now include short courses that provide specific workplace skills rather than full 6 or 12 month programs.

"TAFE is becoming increasingly flexible and if there is enough demand for a specific type of skill or training, then a course can be created around that," Ms Pyne said.

"There are also online, in the workplace and part-time training options which impact less on commitments at work or home."

The survey will remain open until 30 November.

All names received through the survey process will be entered in the draw to win a year's subscription to the Tully Times.

TAFE would like to thank Tully Chamber of Commerce, Growcom, Skilling Tully, Cassowary Coast Regional Council and Andrew Cripps MP for their support in compiling the survey.
