Sisters doing art for themselves in new TAFE exhibition

Tuesday, 1 September 2009 10:05AM

Twin sisters Brooke and Bianca Foster have combined their unique artistic talents for the latest exhibition at Tropical North Queensland TAFE's Banggu Minjaany Art Gallery.

The Changing Season exhibition showcases more than 20 beautiful works by the Fosters, both former Diploma of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Visual Arts students at TAFE.

The Kuranda sisters' vibrant acrylics on canvas capture and celebrate native Australian flora and fauna, and their cultural significance to Indigenous people, in bold colours and striking scenes.

Cassowaries, frogs, possums, echidnas, birds, goannas, fish and turtles in their natural habitats all come alive in the works.

Tropical North Queensland TAFE Institute Director Jo Pyne said Changing Season was a treat for art lovers young and old alike.

"The Foster sisters are fabulous emerging artists who have an amazing ability to bring the subjects in their paintings to life," Ms Pyne said.

"Their works are bright and colourful featuring many types of animals and plants and children will love viewing these works as much as adults.

"I encourage community members to take in this wonderful exhibition which is open to the public free-of-charge."

Changing Season was officially opened by Kuranda artist Zane Saunders on 14 August.

The exhibition runs until 11 September in the Banggu Minjaany Art Gallery, R Block, Cairns TAFE Campus, Gatton St, Manunda.
