Job seekers and existing workers have been urged to up-skill with TAFE training to stand out in a competitive employment market.
Tropical North Queensland TAFE Institute Director Jo Pyne has encouraged far northerners to take advantage of TAFE mid-year enrolments to embark on a fresh career path, gain new skills and qualifications or study for the future.
"Tropical North Queensland TAFE delivers over 300 programs and those on offer for mid-year enrolments are tailored to provide job seekers, career changes and those returning to work with accessible training options," Ms Pyne said.
"Enrolments are being taken across a range of subjects including tourism, environment, Indigenous studies, marine, salon services, trade, business, IT, health and hospitality."
Ms Pyne said all TAFE courses were developed in partnership with industry and were designed to meet the skills needs of the far north Queensland economy.
"All programs are designed to allow students to fit study into their lives with many offered on a part-time or flexible basis," she said.
"This allows students to focus on seeking employment or progressing their careers while undertaking their studies.
"Students are also able to enter programs at a level that suits their needs and abilities through Recognition of Prior Learning and credit can be given for previous study or work experience."
Ms Pyne said the message was clear: enrol with TAFE now and get ahead with your career.
"Our students are guaranteed practical and industry-relevant training," she said.
"This ensures TAFE graduates are well equipped to handle real-world situations.
"As part of their studies, TAFE marine students are trained on our own 50-foot training vessel, hospitality students gain experience in our open-to-the-public training restaurant, music students participate in live performances and hair and beauty students operate TAFE salons."
TAFE's semester two will commence on Monday 13 July.
