As competition for jobs heats up and the economic downturn hits home, far north Queenslanders are being urged to upgrade their skills with TAFE in 2009.
Tropical North Queensland TAFE is now taking enrolments for Semester One 2009 with a wide array of courses on offer to help far northerners realise their employment, career and study goals.
Tropical North Queensland TAFE Institute Director Joann Pyne said prospective students could choose from more than 200 full-time, part-time, external and online programs.
"TAFE endeavours to offer a wide range of innovative courses which provide graduates with the skills and knowledge to succeed in the workplace or go on to further study," Ms Pyne said.
"In 2009 we will be delivering programs at Certificate II, III, IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma level across areas including business and management, creative industries, education, environment and sustainability, health and community care, IT, marine, tourism and hospitality, salon services, post trade and pre-apprenticeship."
Many programs offer flexible study options, providing students with the opportunity to upgrade their skills while working.
TAFE diploma graduates can take advantage of credit arrangements with selected university bachelor programs in areas including business, beauty, hospitality and tourism.
Year 11 students looking to combine their schooling with vocational training can enrol in the SchoolTech program, delivered in partnership with Education Queensland at the Cairns TAFE Campus.
"TAFE has a range of pathways to help you achieve your career and study goals and to suit your lifestyle and circumstances," Ms Pyne said.
Ms Pyne urged those keen to upskill, gain a qualification or even start a new hobby to contact Tropical North Queensland TAFE on 1300 656 959 or visit www.tnqit.tafe.qld.gov.au.
Semester One 2009 will commence from 27 January.
