First flight attendant course for far north

Wednesday, 11 June 2008 2:45PM

Tropical North Queensland TAFE has announced far north Queensland's first full-time flight attendant training program providing locals with a pathway to sought after careers within the tourism and airline industries.

The three-week program provides participants with the skills and knowledge to stand out from the crowd when applying for positions within the travel industry's most competitive sector.

TAFE Institute Director Jo Pyne said the new course is also applicable to the cruise industry and is delivered in conjunction with local operators.

"This is a very exciting course that has a direct flow on effect to the local tourism industry," Ms Pyne said.

"It builds a pool of qualified talent which local operators can access when searching for skilled workers as well as providing excellent employment prospects for job seekers."

The program is delivered with assistance from Skytrans, Qantas, Jetstar, Sunlover Cruises and Airservices Australia.

Training centres on the basic criteria used in airline and cruise selection processes including responsible service of alcohol, workplace hygiene, safety and security and working with other cultures.

"This new course is an excellent platform for those considering entering the airline or cruise industry," Ms Pyne said.

The full-time course is the equivalent of TAFE's one day per week flight attendant course for high school students and is scheduled to commence 28 July.
