TAFE and Queensland Writers Centre Launch Novel Partnership

Wednesday, 19 March 2008 9:16AM

A novel partnership between TAFE and the Queensland Writers Centre (QWC) will help aspiring and established far north Queensland writers develop their skills in 2008.

QWC, the state's premier writing organisation, will deliver its 2008 regional program of workshops and seminars at the Tropical North Queensland TAFE Cairns Campus for the first time under the Institute's new Community Training Partnerships initiative.

Tropical North Queensland TAFE Institute Director Jo Pyne said the QWC partnership was fantastic news for budding writers across the region.

"The Queensland Writers Centre runs a quality program of workshops and seminars which give beginning, developing and experienced writers in regional areas access to industry professionals, targeted training and development assistance," Ms Pyne said.

"The 2008 QWC program for Cairns includes workshops on short stories and travel writing, as well as a seminar on publishers and agents.

"TAFE is thrilled to be able to assist the centre to deliver its program in Cairns and looks forward to a productive partnership which will help make far north Queensland a region renowned for its writers."

QWC CEO Kate Eltham said the partnership with TAFE was a huge boost to QWC's program in far north Queensland.

"Tropical North Queensland TAFE has provided a fantastic resource for Cairns-based writers to develop their skills and knowledge," she said.

"TAFE's outstanding facilities and location will enable QWC to expand its program in far north Queensland and support a thriving community of local writers."
